Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP) is a national non-profit and non-governmental organization established and registered in May 2002, under the Societies Act of 1860 (Registration No. 192/5/2946). We work with some of the most underprivileged communities in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan; responding to emergencies, improving access to quality health and education, creating livelihood opportunities and working closely with communities and government departments to promote human rights, peace and security.(Read more about CAMP)

The promotion of durable and sustainable peace and development has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges that the FATA and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa region are facing, especially in the past few years. Young people in FATA struggle with a number of cultural, educational, economic and social obstacles. Most young people in FATA do not complete their basic education, lack core life skills, and are excluded from mainstream opportunities for livelihood and development. The FATA Development Program-Livelihood Development (FDP-LD) is supporting the FATA Secretariat and the FATA Development Authority (FDA) to implement the FATA Sustainable Development Program (FSDP) and raise the quality of life for young people in Southern FATA and Frontier Regions. FDP-LD is the major five-year programme intended to strengthen government and private capacity, develop infrastructure, deliver basic services, increase job skills and employment opportunities, and support the growth of small business. The integrated program is implementing projects in FATA in collaboration with FATA based NGOs. In order to stimulate these local players and help them involve more youth in healthy and positive activities, FDP-LD selected CAMP as one its partners to enhance leadership, managerial and administrative capacity of potential partner NGOs who will implement FDP–LD funded small scale projects in lower FATA. The project aims to In the three month Project (May-August 2009), CAMP conducted a thorough needs assessment of the potential partners of FDP-LD to train them as potential ‘agents of change’ to promote social cohesion and collective planning that increases solidarity and trust in the long run. The NGOs included: Kohat Area Development Organization and Meirman Women Development Center in Kohat, Community Development Programme Bannu, Wana Welfare Association, Waziristan and the Directorate of Sports FATA, Peshawar. Based on the training needs assessment conducted with the NGOs and Government organization, CAMP conducted five intensive training courses in the following areas:

  1. Participatory Monitoring & Evaluation
  2. Proposal & Report Writing
  3. Development, Planning & Management
  4. Accounts & Book Keeping
  5. Social Organization Techniques & Gender Mainstreaming

66 professionals took active part in the training courses, and post-training evaluation feedback showed that they benefited greatly from the programme. There was a recommendation from participants to continue such capacity building efforts in the future.
