We work with some of the most underprivileged communities in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan; responding to emergencies, improving access to quality health and education, creating livelihood opportunities and working closely with communities and government departments to promote human rights, peace and security.(Read more about CAMP)

The figure of 17.42% of people in FATA being literate presents a very dismal scenario, but more pitiful is the female literacy which is less than 3% (1998 Census). This leaves most FATA youth with little or no education and inadequate coping skills. With little opportunities to access vocational or higher education they are practically unemployable for trades and jobs that require semi-or higher skilled workers, and as a result are vulnerable to exploitation and extremism. CAMP supported an initiative to provide 'Literacy, Numeracy, Life Skills' training to youth in FATA and Frontier Regions from July-December 2009, through a project supported by the FATA Development Program – Livelihood Development. The 6 month project in Kurram and Orakzai Agencies and Frontier Region of Kohat, targeted young people through a comprehensive literacy, numeracy and life skills training package, as well 'cash for work' employees through as series of life skills training workshops. Through the project, CAMP established 50 home-based adult literacy centers in Kurram and Orakzai Agencies, and Frontier Region (FR) Kohat including 38 centers for women and 18 for men. In order to improve the effectiveness of these centers, CAMP built the capacity of the master trainers. These centers targeted 1751 youth between the ages of 14-28 through three-month comprehensive Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills course. 80% of the beneficiaries in the project were female, and 20% were male. A series of Life Skills Workshops was also conducted for 'Cash for Work' employees and other community networks and members through this Project, benefitting over 550 individuals.
