'My dream has come true…' --Voices from the New Bedadi Village project

"My name is InayatUllah and I am 60 years old. There are four members in my family.
Before the catastrophic earthquake of October 2005, I was a living in a village called Bedadi in Shinkiari Union Council. With no education and little skills I was working as a Gardner at a green tea field where I earned a monthly salary of 4000 Rupees ($47). It was a very secure and peaceful village, but had no basic facilities like health, sanitation or even education.

During the earthquake, the house I lived in as a tenant was destroyed and my village turned in to rubble. I had no choice but to leave. We had lost everything.

CAMP established a tent village in Bedadi where I registered myself with the family. I have the honor that my family and I were the first ones to register themselves with CAMP's tent village. God answered my prayers when I got a job as a Security Guard at the same tent village. It was very difficult to maintain a family in those days, but with 2000 Rupees ($23) thanks to CAMP, it made my struggle to make ends meet easier. They provided all registered families domestic goods such as food and non-food items for six months. CAMP also registered our tent village with UNHCR and other agencies, so we received blankets, soap, kerosene oil, plastic sheets. MDM provided health facilities on weekly basis, while Tdh established child friendly space for children.

Bedadi project has changed my life and I don't know how to thank IDEALS and CAMP; it is every poor mans dream to build a house and now my dream has come true, thanks to their efforts. We have our own 5 Marla house at the New Bedadi Village. I am living a comfortable life with my family here and have access to water, a graveyard and school that will soon be built and every thing I need to live a happy life. The DHQ (District Head Quarters) hospital is only 6 kms away from my village. Now I am earning Rs. 5000 a month working as a security guard in a nearby poultry farm. My son also helps me to run the house, he works as a mason. Life is Good, thank you again!"
