'The new Bedadi Village Project has secured my children's future'

"I am Muzammil Khan, a 60 year old man from District Mansehra. Before the earthquake I was working in a factory as a security guard in Lahore, while my family of five was living in Bedadi village, in a rented house. I had three sons two of them worked at a bakery shop in Balakot and we were living a prosperous life. Bedadi was never a well-established village; there were no proper facilities, which met the requirements of daily life. There were no health and education facilities in that village and there was no proper system for water and sanitation. Even with all these problems it was still home for me and my children.

During the earthquake I lost my house and a son. The death of my son still haunts us, as I think about my son who was burned alive in the bakery. After this tragedy, I went into depression for almost a year.

My family and I registered ourselves at CAMP's a tent village in Bedadi UC Shinkiari after the earthquake left us homeless. We received assistance in the form of food and non-food items for six months. We even received support from UNHCR and health and education from other organizations. The Government of Pakistan also gave me a cheque of Rs.100, 000/- as compensation for all the misery my family and I went through with my son.

The Bedadi project has changed our lives and secured my children's future. Every family in the New Bedadi Village is grateful to the IDEALS who donated so much money for this Project and to CAMP for it's determination. Many families have benefited from NGO's through different ways but we have never seen such a beneficial project in our district before.

We are very thankful to CAMP and IDEALS, without whom we wouldn't have ever been able to build our own houses; we acknowledge and appreciate their efforts every day."

Location: New Bedadi village is situated on the Link road,
6 Kms away from Shahrai-e- Resham (Main road).
